Electrical Rewiring for an Insurance Agency- Harbor Springs Mi

Today I’m going to be meeting the electrical inspector at Harbor Plaza in Harbor Springs so he can give a “rough” inspection for an insurance agency that is being remodeled due to a recent flood in the building. A water heater in one of the upper units malfunctioned and started a fire. The fire got hot enough that it caused a water line to break apart, which put out the fire, but consequently flooded the unit and the two units below it.

This is a case where smoke detectors would have come in very handy. The building is not up to current codes because of it’s age. Modern buildings are required to have smoke detection which alerts the fire dept. when they go off and usually a sprinkler system. I am going to suggest two things to the owner:

  1. Putting in the smoke detectors that I mentioned before
  2. putting in devices that shut the water supply off when moisture is detected

Water cop makes such a device. When the devices sensor gets wet it causes a valve to shut which prevents the building from flooding. Couple that with the fire department being alerted in the event of a fire and the damage caused would be reduced greatly.

If you own an older building in Harbor Springs or Petoskey and are not sure if the electrical work is up to current electrical code standards, Select Electric will inspect the building and give you a free quote for the electrical work needed to bring everything up to code.
