20-Year Old Home Electrical Updatingresidential electrical work

My friend, Jenn, who works at the Twisted Olive in Petoskey, purchased a home off of Resort Pike near Walloon Lake. The home is about 20 years old, so she gave me a call when she was thinking about putting in an offer to inspect the electrical. The electrical service was pretty much okay, except for a few circuits where the plugs and the lights are on the same circuit.

By the Way – Kirsten Okeefe, owner of the Twisted Olive Cafe in Petoskey had me update the lighting and electrical before they opened.

When escrow closed, Jenn had me come out to add some additional receptacles in the garage, replace old light fixtures, remove telephone jacks, add new lights and plugs to a bedroom… the standard things when updating an older home or remodeling.

The kitchen had one light switch controlling the main kitchen light, the light over the sink and 3 spot lights over the seating counter – one flick of the switch and the world lit up!  That’s a lot of light and electricity that isn’t needed for most kitchen use.

In the top picture, you see me separating the one switch into a 3-box set of switches that give more flexibility and help to save on the electric bill.

Adding plugs and lights to a remodeled bedroom was no sweat, but like most rewiring jobs there were a couple of times I had to fish wires and cut a few holes.

Whether you’re a homeowner or a restaurant owner, if you need to update your wiring or lighting or need new electrical work give me a call.
