Fishing in Recessed Can Lighting in a condo at the Cliffs of BMaster Electrical Contractoray Harbor

This morning I drove over to Bay Harbor where I was contracted to do some electrical work by a customer of mine. They just finished a complete remodel of their unit. However the light fixtures they chose for the master bath vanity were very attractive but they did not give quite enough light for them. So I suggested that they add some low voltage can lights above the vanity to brighten things up a bit.

They decided on three can lights. This process is a bit tricky even for someone that’s been doing this kind of thing for over fifteen years. What I had to do first was to determine how the ceiling joists lay out. I was able to take apart an existing recessed speaker to get an initial idea and use the hole to help me fish the wiring in. Once I had that done I double checked the joist lay out with my stud sensor. Then I could take measurements to ensure that I could center the middle can and make the outer cans equidistant from the end of the vanity. The only thing I had to worry about after that was plumbing pipes running through the upper portion of the ceiling that my sensor could have missed. Fortunately everything worked out fine as you can see by the pictures. I installed all three with no drywall damage the only thing that needs to be painted are the can trims. It’s bright enough now to perform surgery! So of course I installed a dimmer switch so that the mood can be set just right.
