Referrals & Word of Mouth Marketing Keep this Electrician Busy

I just completed some remodel and rewiring electrical work for a homeowner in Resort Pike. While I was working to update some of the lighting, plugs and switches, I got to thinking about what a small world it is and how connected everything is…

Before I started this blog, I was hired to update the lighting and some electrical wiring at the Twisted Olive Cafe. I was also hired by John (MiPetoskey.com) to do the wiring for a couple of bathroom remodels at his house on Kalamazoo.

While doing the electrical work at the Twisted Olive, I met Jenn, a waitress and hostess. It turns out Jenn and John are friends and that when it came time for her to have an electrician look at her house, they both thought of me.

Internet MarketingIt was John, that got me into blogging about my business. John’s been doing Internet marketing for about 20 years or as he says – before Al Gore invented the Internet. When I was wiring the bathrooms at the house on Kalamazoo in Petoskey, John mentioned that he did Internet marketing and we started talking about it and The 4-Hour Work Week – a book that we had both read. John told me that he didn’t think very many business owners in Petoskey were using Internet Marketing in a way that was helping them to build their business in an effective way.

John is the Internet marketing expert for a team of Realtors in California. Working from Petoskey, he helps them assist clients in buying and selling homes in San Ramon & Danville CA. He says that this year has been a record breaker and that over 70% of their business is coming from the Internet.

John tells me that he is semi-retired and only takes on clients that he likes and have something that challenges or interests him. He seems to be into it more for the fun than the money these days. Recently, he started working with a guy that does workshops on the superego & inner critic – whatever that is??!! He also has a client that rents temporary restrooms and portable toilets in CA and also recycles used cooking oil.

“Many people still don’t understand the power of Internet Marketing,” says John. “The Internet works 24/7 for your business. It never gets tired. My client in California with the toilet business wanted to grow his business from about $750,000 a year to $2 million in two years. He did it in one. Internet marketing works equally for everyone.”

I believe him. Since he has been working with me, I am getting more and more electrical contracting business from the Internet. If you want to talk to him about Internet marketing – email him.
