Faulty electrical connection repair in Harbor Springs

Last week I responded to a service call in Harbor Springs. The home owner said that she was smelling a very bad odor in her basement. She said it smelled similar to burning rubber. This is typical of a faulty electrical connection. Master Electrical ContractorMaster Electrical ContractorIn the first picture you can see that the outlet has been burned badly and the back is pretty much melted. This is the point right before the breaker trips and shuts power off to the circuit. The problem was that there was to many appliances on the circuit to begin with and all that power was having to go through the outlet. I had to run a new 20 amp circuit to feed the laundry which must be on it’s own circuit to meet the code. This greatly reduced the amount of power on the problem circuit.

As you can see by the lower picture I also placed the wires under wire nuts with just one wire to the outlet. Now the majority of the power on the circuit is going through the wire nut connection and not the actual outlet. This is just another problem area that most homeowners are unaware of when selecting a quality electrical contractor.
